Wow!!! It's been quite a while since I updated this thing, so I'll just pick up where I left off somewhere in the wee days of July. I went to New York (where I ate some pork) Then I went to DC (I saw the boys of the beach) There, we stayed at the 4-H center in Chevy Chase. Props to any SLC/DSA peeps who get the joke. And I apologize to anyone who is not on the leadership team who has heard that song and just rolled their eyes (although I did look like a rock star, didn't I kaci!). Anyway, that trip was great, but it is far in the past these days. Oh yeah, while I'm on the subject of GPA, Camp was cool, I played Robin in the skits.
Ok, before GPA camp there was Dry Creek. What an amazing week!! I was a counselor for the church. We really connected with God and eachother. I got to break up a near-riot, and really connect with a troubled kid. It was great! I also got to feel important because I could go to the adult meetings. I was able to see old friends, make new ones (especially the pretty and nice girls), and spend some time with my really close friends from back home (I say back home because I'm officially a college student now, more on that soon). Did I mention the pretty and nice girl(s)? But more importantly God revealed Himself to us and nothing could ever top that.
Ok...after the camps and the wisdom teeth recoup I was able to wakeboard again. Yay!
I was also able to play trumpet. I began practice for LSU Tiger Band and Wind Ensemble/Symphonic Winds auditions. For further info on the futility of that last statement, read on.
So August 12 rolled around and the event to cap off my high school days finally arrived. The Crowder Concert. I need some sort of special italics made specifically for use when that concert is mentioned. It was that cool. Kaci claims to be a bigger Crowder fan, but sorry dear, you're not. Not only is the DCB (I just noticed that two of my favorite things are composed of the came letters-DCB and the DCBC) wonderful musically, that is the tip of the iceberg. Their commitment to being a catalyst in connecting people with God is their focus (that's the kind of iceberg that sinks Titanics). And their darn cool people to boot! Thanks FBC DQ guys for getting my shirt signed, it hangs above me on the bulletin board in my dorm room as I type this blog.
6:30 the next morning rolls around, and my new life begins. I moved into my dorm room that morning, and the meadow of freedom opened up with all its butterflies, tall flowers, and little furry critters! And oh how I frolic in this field of freedom, full of glee. (Sorry, that was wierd). Then tiger band came. 8:30 am- 9 pm everyday. That is all I have to say. Some really cool and fun things happened at pre season week, but to get to some other neat things that I think the reader will find interesting, I will abridge that section.
I began life as a music major, and it started off with an audition. That was funny. I've never had a worse audition. That's ok, we got the music monday then had the audish wed. Fun stuff
College has been great. It's a lot different than anything else. It's different here, but I like it (love it). There are some great people, and some great things to do. I'm staying out of trouble too. The first week of classes was hectic, fun, and everything in between. I'll try to update on some of the more funny details more often, but for now I have one of those random yet profound thoughts.
I recently heard a song that goes a little something like this
"God gave rock and roll to you, gave rock and roll to you, God gave rock and roll to everyone"
At first I shrugged the lyrics off as a silly rock anthem, but the words stuck with me. I got to thinking that there is some truth to the statement.
Reason 1- Every good thing comes from God. I classify rock and roll as a good thing, especially when used to glorify God, and even more especially when it is used to connect with Him in music worship (hence my attraction to DCB and Delerious? and such).
Reason 2- When I think of a rock (and its origins) I think of defying standards, and shaking things up. Rock purists would agree with Jack Black as Dewey Finn in the movie School of Rock when he says that rock is about "sticking it to the man." Well, no one did that better than The One. Jesus is the ultimate picture of sticking it to the man. See, He defied social standards and really stuck it to the man. Rock also makes me think of alternative lifestyles, and what's more alternative to our human nature than living a life of peace, love, and constant connection with our Creator! If that's not rock, I don't know what is.
Reason 3- Rock in its purest (behind industry and business and all that stuff) is about self expression and individuality. God gave us a personality, gifts, and made us for a reason. We should embrace what God gave us- what I like to call our "Rock and Roll spirit"- To respond to His greatness, love, and rescuing grace in the way that we were made to.
Well, i'm tired. I would like to do more research on this topic and wrire more later. I hope that was enjoyable. Everyone have a great day. Gimme a call if you know me, i'd like to hear from you! |
